Windows Server 2012 – How to Reboot Your Server

Since the Start menu is not visible in Windows Server 2012 as it was in previous versions (2003, 2008) and following the introduction of the new "Metro Style" user interface, you can reboot your server using one of these methods:                                                                                      

Method 1: Using the Parameters menu

Method 2: Using a command

Method 1: Using the Parameters menu 

Once connected to your Windows 2012 server with Remote Desktop, follow these steps: 

  1. Position your mouse in the bottom right corner of the Remote Desktop screen of your Windows 2012 server.

  2. Once the menu is visible, click on Settings. 
  3. Click on Power.

  4. Click on Restart.  

Method 2: Using a command  

Once connected to your Windows 2012 server with Remote Desktop, follow these steps: 

  1. Open the Powershell interface. 
  2. Type the following command:

 shutdown /r

       3. Press Enter to restart your server.
